Hearts & Tears offers one-day trips throughout the year, and schedules guided tours during February-May and September-December. Customised adventures are made to measure.

Bikes give us freedom, and the journey is the adventure. Foreigners on unusual bikes usually get a wonderful reception anywhere they decide to stop. We provide all the equipment and support you need to head out on the highway and see the best of this incredible country by motorcycle.

If you have any driving licence (eg for a car), you’re welcome to ride the club’s custom bikes. Adventures cover long distances in varied conditions, so riders must be assessed before departure and take training if necessary.

Escaping from Pokhara into the countryside of Nepal is an exhilarating experience. There’s no fixed route or itinerary, but we know some fantastic roads. We can gasp at stunning views of Phewa Lake, the Annapurna range or deep ravines; dance with our bikes through a thousand corners and beautiful villages; or simply explore the local attractions in style.

We stop for tea in random villages, find dal bhat (the national dish) around lunchtime, and head back before sunset. A superb day out!

Our 2-5 day guided tours have been life-changing adventures for many customers. Riding the best biking roads to our favourite destinations, we get off the beaten track to discover the real Nepal. We offer a choice of four great tours, but can custom-make an adventure if you’re looking for a longer ride or other routes.

Chitwan National Park (4 days, 3 nights)
Straddling Nepal’s southern border with India, the Chitwan National Park is a protected reserve with incredible wildlife and natural beauty. The one-day ride down is amazing, and there’s plenty to do on days 2&3 in Sauraha: relax on the river beach, walk or take a jeep into the jungle, ride down dirt tracks, visit the elephant breeding centre or crocodile farm, ride or wash an elephant, go on a dug-out canoe trip or …

… ride into the jungle on a motorcycle safari! It’s a unique biking experience as local guides lead us through the National Park to a remote Tharu village. We drink raksi by a camp fire, eat dal bhat with our hands, and stay overnight with a Tharu family. We ride back to Sauraha around lunchtime on day 3, leaving the afternoon free for other activities. With a spectacular ride back to Pokhara on day 4, there should be loads of stories to tell!

Tansen (2 days, 1 night)

A twisty, beautiful road winds its way south of Pokhara towards the Indian border. With deep gorges, spectacular scenery, little traffic, and a bridge over the holy Kaligandaki river, it’s a biker’s dream. Our hotel in Tansen, a hill station, is a central base for exploring the historic town. Foreigners are quite rare, so the experience is authentic – just like the food in our favourite restaurant!

Morning mist settles in the valley below Tansen, giving the impression of a huge white lake. When it starts to clear, we kick the bikes into life for the superb ride home.

Gorkha & Bandipur (2 days, 1 night)
A day’s ride east of Pokhara is Gorkha, the ancient capital of Nepal, where we stay for the night. With breathtaking views and a gorgeous town to explore, it’s a superb biking destination off the beaten track. Returning to Pokhara the following morning, we take a detour to Bandipur. With its medieval architecture and incredible views of the Himalaya, it’s a little-known gem of Nepal. The 1000m climb up a twisty little road makes lunch all the more satisfying!

Bandipur, Daman & Chitwan (5 days, 4 nights)
We ease into this long trip with a few hours’ ride to Bandipur, climbing above the clouds to stay for the first night. An early start the next morning is rewarded with lunch in Malekhu – a village famous for fish curry.

Close to Kathmandu, we turn south and ascend to Daman. The 2400m climb is absolutely stunning: a small road with very little traffic; spectacular scenery, traditional villages and views of Sagarmatha (or Mt. Everest as the British imperialists called it).

Day 3, we descend to the Terai (the flatlands bordering the Indian plains) and on to Sauraha in the Chitwan National Park, where we stay for two nights. This leaves day 4 free for relaxation or jungle activities of your choice. Then it’s a ride out of the jungle, up a river valley and back to Pokhara by mid-afternoon of day 5.

If you prefer to plan your own bike adventure, we custom-make trips for 2-8 riders. We know plenty of great roads and destinations, and can design a programme with you. Feel free to discuss alternative routes, timescales or activities. Everything’s possible (as we say in Nepal), but we recommend:
In central north Nepal, on a bumpy road just before Tibet, is The Last Resort: tented accommodation; a great bar; sauna and plunge pool; plenty of adventurous activities. Oh, and a 165m bungee jump!

Bardia National Park is the largest game reserve in the Terai, and is renowned as the best place to see exotic wildlife such as tigers and fresh water dolphins. Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, attracts pilgrims from all over the world. Kathmandu, the capital, has rich cultural and architectural heritage. As licensed international tour operators, we also organise expeditions into India, Tibet and Bhutan.
